How does it work?
The Netspace Accelerator is designed to increase the speed of web sites you visit regularly through a combination of advanced compression and smart caching. The Accelerator speeds up web page delivery using five intelligent techniques:
- Compression
The Accelerator compresses images and graphical content to make the image file size smaller and easier to download. You can set your own level of image compression, and still choose to view any image at full quality. - Caching
The Accelerator intelligently retains and reuses web page elements as you browse. - Persistent connections
The Accelerator optimises the connection between your computer and the Netspace server by keeping it open, eliminating the time wasted by establishing and closing TCP/IP connections to individual sites. - Chunk encoding with parallel connections
When you download a large file, Netspace Accelerator downloads different segments of that file from different locations, allowing you full use of your bandwidth. - Content filtering
The Accelerator allows you to block unwanted content such as in-page ads and pop-ups before they are downloaded. Advertisements are replaced on the page by a light grey box. You can customise this feature, and switch it on or off as required.
What is Accelerated?
Netspace Accelerator makes downloading most web content faster, however, there are a few exceptions.
Accelerated Content
- All text, including HTML and JavaScript
- Most graphics and photos, jpg and gif images
- Most banner ads, including animated gifs and Flash
- All browser-based emails
- POP3 and IMAP protocol emails and attachments
- Outgoing SMTP email, including large messages with attachments
- MP3 files, executables and other files, when downloaded from within your web browser
Non-Accelerated Content
- Secure pages, online banking and credit card forms
- Pages accessed using a Virtual Private Network
- Streaming media, audio and video files
- Files downloaded outside your browser using ftp
Who Can Use It?
Netspace Accelerator is not available to customers on Block Hours or Permanent plans. For all other Netspace Dial up customers Netspace Accelerator is free. To install simply download Netspace Accelerator, save it to your desktop and then double click it to run the install program.
